25 Things Creatives Do Differently

Part One

I recently read an awesome article on www.powerofpositivity.com and have to share it in its entirety with you. I have always realized that creative people work with a different set of tools. Here is their take on this fascinating lifestyle I so widely embrace and love most of the time. What are your favorite and most relatable numbers below? I have divided it up into two posts because if most of you are like me, you’ll skip right to the bottom when you get halfway through.

“While most think of creative people as “right-brained” or artsy, creativity exists within all of us – even the most logical, linear thinkers.

However, some of us have honed our creative sides a little more than others, and know how to capture and express that imaginative energy. Creative people cover a broad spectrum of personalities, from the stereotypical starving artist to the entrepreneurial businessman. They share some common traits that allow them to bring that creativity to life, including the following:

25 Things Creative People Do Differently:

1. They work when the work comes to them…meaning that they only paint, draw, write, sew, dance, or write out business plans when they feel like it. Creative people know the mind performs best in small bursts of concentrated work.
2. They probably don’t have a “normal” job. The creative spirit feels dampened by a job in which it doesn’t get to roam free and do as it pleases. Many creative types turn to entrepreneurship to make money because it fulfills their soul while still allowing them to get paid.

3. They see inspiration in everything. Creative spirits become inspired by anything and everything, from an unusual pattern on a leaf to the bright lights of a city at night. They see the world as their oyster and have a knack for finding inspiration in the most unlikely of places.

4 .They never stop questioning. The creative mind always wonders and always wanders; creative people have highly active imaginations and ponder the big AND small questions in life. They want to know it all.
5. They aren’t afraid to fail. They don’t even see failure as a bad thing because they know that the only way to grow in life is by putting yourself out there and making mistakes.

6. They don’t like being told what to do or when to do things. They work best alone and feel totally confident walking their own path in life.

7. They are risk-takers. Creative people don’t just love doing new things, they actually seek out dangerous or uncomfortable opportunities because this makes them feel alive. It unlocks new doors of creativity, and might even give them insight into previously undiscovered talents.

8. They use their pain to fuel their passion. Creative people have likely been through very hellish and traumatic experiences, but these experiences give life to their work. They feel inspired by what they learned from their setbacks, and transmute the negative energy from the pain into something positive.

9. They practice self-development. Imaginative people know that a foggy, unproductive, negative brain will block their creativity and not allow them to express themselves fully. They read self-help books, practice mindfulness, meditate, do yoga, and say positive affirmations. They know that a positive attitude is a cornerstone of achieving a high level of creative success.

10. They daydream. Creative people let their minds wander, and don’t ask any questions until later. They simply enjoy traveling to new lands and thinking up new concepts through their imaginations, and know that daydreaming can lead to the most profound, unparalleled ideas.

11. They enjoy spending time alone. Most creative people are seen as loners or misfits, and never really fit into any stereotype or clique. While this may not always be the case, creative people usually feel most comfortable in solitude because they do their best work in their own company.

12. They aren’t afraid of being different. They know they’re different, but they wouldn’t have it any other way. They own their uniqueness and feel honored to show it off.
They only want friends who uplift and inspire them. They don’t want to be around people who don’t have big dreams and visions – they seek out friendships with people who they can bounce ideas off of and who truly understand their soul.”

I know this has nothing to do with art, paint or DIY. But my business is more then just a product. Its people and lives that make a great products for you and their lives surrounding every label applied. We are a MomMom and Poppie business. Maybe right in your neighborhood and we all have stories right?

Well, I have been on Weight Watchers and love it. I lost 15 pounds in the last 11 weeks and I am thrilled. I dont go to meetings and am an online member, but there is a support system called Connect and its like a facebook for WW. Well we have this thing called NSV (non scale victory).

I flew home yesterday from Seattle to Orlando after visiting my little grand daughter for a week. I have many times dreaded getting up to go use the Lav because I didn’t want my big butt hitting somebody in the head or at least the arm. Well I have a NSV to report! I walked down several rows of the aisle yesterday and didnt take anybody down or have to apologize all along the way!!! Its an accomplishment worth sharing and celebrating!!!

Happy Mother’s Day to Me!

Building Your Personal Sanctuary

Is there a place a sacred place where God meets you? Is there a place that you are most vulnerable and ready to receive what he wants you to hear, a place where you have to let your worldly defenses and guards down? A place you are most vulnerable? A place where you can receive what you need to move on to become the best you that you know He wants you to be?

solitude-and-leadership

Are you running from this place, or maybe you just don’t know where it is yet. Are you letting the things of this world keep you from this place? Where is it my friend and why aren’t you going there regularly? Why are you keeping God from moving you past your present circumstance and moving into his Grace and Glory by denying your self the pleasure of his company and receiving His Mercy and Grace that so freely reign on us?

woman-running-in-woods

Maybe you have to push through to go there, maybe there is physical pain, emotional pain, you may be tired and exhausted, but I believe there is a special place on this earth where you can connect with Him at a deep spiritual and soulyoular™ level. A place He wants to walk and run with you a place where he will shower you with His love, reveal his plans for your life, your day your every waking moment. A place where you can go to learn to forgive, heal, laugh and cry.

When I step my foot on my Nordic track in the early morning my first thought is “Oh Jesus Walk with me” and he meets me there every time. “In his presence there is peace and rain, there is life that never ends. In his presence there is joy, there is life that never ends. How I need him”. He is the reason I come alive each and everyday!! He is my source of strength and joy!!!

quiet-corner_big

There is nothing in this world that can replace the glory of spending time in His presence. If you are searching and don’t have a sacred place to spend time with him alone, ask him to show you what you need to do to find that secret place. While I know He is with me constantly, some of the places I have met God over the years for personal time with Him, have been while walking in the woods, running at the beach, my hour long commute to work, presently on my Nordic track on my back porch, but it has rarely been inside my home. I have to disconnect from my physical house because I am so easily distracted, but you may be different you may have a little area somewhere in your home you can sit and get in His presence. My friend again, what ever you have to do, just do it! Your life will never be the same!

Broken isn’t Just a Metaphor for Mosaic

DSC_0106_1346

I know I talk about the splender of taking broken things and turning them into something beautiful all the time. It’s what I do, It’s what I’ve always done whether it was as a nurse through healing, through loving peoples souls back to to wholeness or as an artist in the reheirlooming process. However, today I though I would address the brokeness we all experience and acknowledge that I know it exists. It isn’t just a metaphor for mosaic, but it is real and it is painful and we all have some in our lives in one way or another, even if we don’t publicly admit it. Sometimes the pain that goes along with being broken is unbearable, we think it will never go away. Or an old pain decides to poke it’s nasty head up for no apparent reason and try to strangle you all over again with it’s nasty grip. Maybe you walked into a room and found the only piece of your late mother’s china laying crashed on the floor, the love of your life walks out on you, you lose your job, or it could be something much simpler that causes you pain, to be shattered, fall apart and come unglued. These are all things that can cause us to be broken.

Brokeness

But remember “that it doesn’t matter how broken you are, what really matters is how you put the pieces back together.

Mosaic has a way of mending our souls in a way that is almost indescribable. It is healing and nuturing. Join me for the Mosaic Memory Bunny Girl Retreat on March 14-16 to experience how broken can be turned to beautiful.

Who Says You Have to Stay Positive?

I know many of you are reading a lot of posts these days about staying positive or being positive and the only type of stuff going through your head is stuff like; How can I stay positive I feel like crap or how can I stay positive I am flat broke. You get the idea; you recognize your own speech in these phrases.

final offer

Well my friend, I have to tell you that you don’t have to stay positive, but if you want something to change in your life then you have to change something you’re doing and the words you speak are a good place to start. The words we speak are life giving words or life taking words. The world was formed by the spoken word. Now talk about the power to achieve by speaking.

Now I know a bunch of you are now saying, but how do I speak positive words when I feel so depressed or like crap? Well I learned a little phrase from my Pastor that I think could change your life as it has mine that I am going to share with you.

When you get a thought and are ready to speak it ask yourself if you could attach to the end of the phrase “because that’s how I want it” or “that’s the way I want it”. So if you are going to say “my kids are monsters” to your girlfriend think in your head before you speak “my kids are monsters and that’s the way I want it” before you speak. Now is that what you really want? If it isn’t then you could just not say it or check yourself by attaching the phrase. Can you see where you can apply this to everything you speak?

So I know your next question is going to be “ well then what in the world do I say, because they really are monsters”? Well short of giving you my whole parenting course that we will have save for another time, the answer is simple. Take the time to reframe your thoughts, then your words. You may say to your friend, “gees these kids really were acting like monsters the whole holiday break, but I am confident that they are becoming better and better behaved each and everyday”. Can you see where this will make a difference?

If we change our words we have the power to change our world.

In Defense of Human Thoughts

IN DEFENSE OF HUMAN TOUGHTS

DSC_0220_2323

My good freind posted this morning about how she has been upset and down for a couple days because so many of her friends have cancer and are so young. And how dare she be consumed with such mondane things as her diet when the are dying. Well I can also relate to her questioning. because I have recently experienced the same thing. I ran into a friend of a friend in the store and we chatted briefly. We started talking about how long the holiday season was and I started wrestling in my brain about getting back to work because it has been so long and I stopped myself. This Gal I was chatting with has terminal cancer also and it smacked in me in the face, How dare you even think of doing anything different then being with your precious family for every second you have the opportunity to. Di may not even see another Christmas and New Year. I know that I have to consciously always be aware of what’s important because my thoughts and imaginations will try to take over what I know is right. Self centeredness is never right for me. The word of GOD gives us the authority in the name of JESUS to cast these things down. Every moment we have with those we love is so important, because we have no idea when their time is up. However in defense of our humaness, we are spirits living in a human body in a world that is occupied by works and deeds of the human race. Our natural instinct is to think about ourselves. It is only when we work and study and pray that our thinking gets more aligned with our Christs. We have to remember not to crucify our selves for our human behavior because Christ was already crucified for it and when these things happen just run to the Cross and seek the LORD when we feel our thoughts and actions aren’t in alignment with Christ like thoughts and behaviors.

Be Authentically You Like Rudolph!

DSC_0218You know Dasher and Dancer
And Prancer and Vixen,
Comet and Cupid
And Donner and Blitzen.
But do you recall
The most famous reindeer of all?

Even Rudolph flew to a beat of a different drummer didn’t he. He was authentic and himself even when he wasn’t popular! My Christmas wish for you is that you will always stay authentic to who you are and you”ll go down in history for being the best you ever!

Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer
Had a very shiny nose
And if you ever saw it
You would even say it glows

All of the other reindeer
Used to laugh and call him names
They never let poor Rudolph
Join in any reindeer games

Then one foggy Christmas Eve
Santa came to say
Rudolph with your nose so bright
Won’t you guide my sleigh tonight?

Then all the reindeer loved him
And they shouted out with glee
Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer
You’ll go down in history!

The Basics of Pique Assiette Mosaic: Fun and Art Rolled Into One

Pique Assiette Mosaic: Fun and Art Rolled Into One

Broken things have a sense of being put together and look marvelous as a whole. That is exactly what a pique assiette is all about.

Pique assiette, also known as shard arts, is a very popular folk art style of mosaics. In French, pique assiette literally means stolen from plates. This kind of art incorporates recycled bits of broken china, porcelain, ceramic tile pottery, stoneware and found objects that are used to make one-of-a-kind and eye- catching art creations.

Pique assiette was originally presented by Raymond Edouard Isidore. He was recognized as the French pique assiette father. Now, you might wonder how he attained this title. The answer is simple yet truly amazing. He covered his entire house and garden with mosaics of broken glass and crockery. Imagine that.

Raymond Eduoard Isidore never considered himself as an artist. He was a graveyard sweeper by day. He lived in Chartres, which is in the northern part of France. Every time he walked home, Isidore picked broken pieces of glass and crockery for his home masterpiece. For 30 years, it was his obsession. His entire house, inside and out, including the garden were decorated and designed with mosaic. They say that his bed sheets were the only thing in their home that were not touched by mosaic. The home now serves as a public museum.

Some people may assume that pique assiette is a very difficult and laborious work of art to learn. Yes making pique assiette is an art. Don?t be scared though if you have never done any art projects before, because it is simple to learn and anybody can do it. It is a fabulous way to bring the artistic and creative side out of you. You can get totally lost in it as you learn how to apply the varying types of shards to your pieces and time seems to just fly by. Then the next thing you know your whole house is covered, well maybe in your minds eye you see it that way.

With its unique and extraordinary appearance, there is no wonder why pique assiette has become a sensation once again. There are several stores selling assembly line pieces of pique assiette, but nothing will compare to what you can make yourself. So why not give it a try? Why buy someone else’s when you can make your own?

Making a pique assiette does not require you to be an established artist or any previous experience with mosaic. Believe me, I have taught hundreds of students and you don?t have to have done a single mosaic ever in your life to create a masterpiece? All you need to be successful is to gather the materials you need, have a wide colorful imagination, and let your hands do the magic for you.

You will find this 3 step beginners instruction guide on how to make a mosaic will not make you even break a sweat. It is my hope that after you accomplished all these steps, you will find yourself still yearning make many more mosaic projects.

Before you begin your 3 steps to mosaic stardom you?ll need to do a few things as listed below.

Article Pics

Choose an project base item that you would like to apply the mosaic tiles onto. You should start with a small item like a picture frame or a flowerpot. ( I have found that students that start small continue with this art form, versus one that start big).

Gather together an assortment of shards. This can be chipped up china plates, cups & saucers or ceramic pieces, jewelry, shells, pebbles, figurines or micro tiles.

Gather the tools that you will need for your creation
1. Small Hammer, stained glass cutters or tile nippers
2. Tacky Glue for indoor pieces and tile mastic for outside pieces
3. Grout
4. Sponge
5. Small pail
6. Paint stirrer
7. Several rags
8. Grout sealer

Great! Just a few steps more and your mosaic masterpiece will be just underneath your touch. Here are the step-by-step instructions to set you on your way to being a pique assiette artist.

Step 1 Break your china into several small pieces with the hand tools. If you already have broken china at hand, it will be useful too. Making a mosaic is like putting a puzzle together. You will need several different sizes and even different colors. After cutting enough tiles to cover your piece, you are ready to glue them on the surface of the item.

Article Pics2

Step 2 Apply enough glue to cover about 4-5 square inches at a time. The glue dries very fast that is why you are doing small sections at a time. If some glue dries before you can apply your shards don?t be upset you can always reapply it. Practice makes perfect. When everything?s done, cover the entire piece should be covered with the tiles. You can choose a certain design or pattern style for your first mosaic, or simply randomly apply the pieces. Let your imagination wander. Play with the colors and sizes of the tiles. After you have covered your entire piece clean up any excess glue from the tiles with water. Let it dry for a few hours or preferably leave it overnight for the best result.

Article Pics3

Step 3 If you are satisfied with the placement and the arrangement of your tiles, it is time to grout. Mix grout and small amounts of water until you obtain a peanut butter consistency. Apply grout with an old paintbrush or small spackle spatula, to be sure to get it into all the joints. I often apply gloves and do it by hand. It lets me get into the cracks of the irregular shaped pieces. Wipe off the excess grout as you go. Next when the entire piece is covered with grout, wipe away remaining excess with smooth damp rags. Keep wiping over your piece with the damp, not wet sponge. It will look hazy but do not fret. That is totally normal. You might have the urge to give up during this process, but don?t! Just keep rinsing your cloth or sponge and wiping until it is free of the haze. After the grout is set and is dry, buff with a clean dry cloth and apply the grout sealer as recommended on the bottle.

Is Soulrageous Living For Me?

restorationI run into people all the time who lack as sense of worthiness. People find there value in what they do and not who they are on the inside. So many people are just roaming through life feeling that they have no purpose or worthiness. That they would be more if they just had that degree or perfect job. They think that a new job or degree will change everything for them. Well I am sorry to to tell you that isn’t true. Where ever you go, what you have on the inside shows on the outside. Where ever you go, there you are.

The good news is though that you were born with the seeds of greatness to become what ever your heart desires. GOD is no respecter of persons. He wants you to live Soulrageously! If you can conceive a dream, then you have what you need on the inside to achieve it. It may take a team effort but you have been given the ability to achieve it. Why not you ? Why not now? But if you never send that ship out it is never going to come in. It all seriously starts with you being able to say, I am responsible for the life I am leading and if you don’t like it do something different to change it. If what you haven’t done up to this point hasn’t worked by Job, don’t keep doing the same stupid thing and expecting different results.Be bold and brave and stop listening to the lies you have told yourself for years and step out of your comfort zone, take responsibility for your actions or lack thereof and let your self grow and become the best you were created to be.

Life is so much more fun when we finally take responsibility for who and what we will let ourselves become and live full out with a Soulrageous heart.

Have an incredible weekend! Love you, Nancyrestoration
